Marriage is beautiful, glorious… and really, really hard.
And so getting married is the kind of thing you want to do with your eyes wide open.
At Seven Mile Road we marvel at the grace of God extended to us in the institution of marriage, and we long to see tons of strong marriages mark our community life together. And so when Seven Mile couples are on the path to saying ‘I do’, we want them arrive at the big day having thoughtfully, conversationally and prayerfully prepared their souls for a lifetime together.
Here is the basic pace of the Track:
CONVERSATION 1: THE DEPTH OF MARRIAGE
Jesus held to a super-high view of marriage. Tonight we consider the magnitude of what it means for a man and woman to enter holy matrimony in the eyes of God. Key text: Matthew 19:1-9
CONVERSATION 2: THE DRAMA OF MARRIAGE
The ultimate meaning and purpose of marriage is to dramatize on earth the covenant keeping love between Jesus and his bride, the church. Tonight we marvel at that reality and consider how husband and wife relate to one another in light of the Gospel. Key Text: Ephesians 5:22-33
CONVERSATION 3: THE DETAILS OF MARRIAGE
Family, finances, house, sex, children… there are a lot of details involved in two people becoming one. Tonight we talk about all the little things that become big things and consider each person’s vision for the grassroots of their marriage. Key Text: Luke 14:25-32
CONVERSATION 4: THE DAY OF MARRIAGE
After these three sessions are complete, each couple will participate in a final conversation with a Seven Mile Road pastor to wrap up our time together and look ahead to the details of weddings and receptions and rings and vows and the like.
