My name is Ajay Thomas, and I am the Lead Pastor of Seven Mile Road Philadelphia.
I started attending Seven Mile Boston in 2004 while I was a student. The church was real young at the time and was so different from what I expected a church to be. I figured I would go somewhere with stain-glassed windows, pews, and a gray-haired pastor. Instead, Seven Mile Road met in a school gymnasium, we sat on folding chairs, and the pastor was in his 30s. After the first glance, I was pretty sure I would never be back again.
But something (or better yet, Someone) brought me back every week. I was attracted to and welcomed by this community of people that loved one another deeply. Eventually, I found myself relearning the gospel, relearning grace, relearning mission, and relearning what it means to be a Christian.
Since then, I've gotten married and I don't know how it all happened, but now my wife and I have moved to Philadelphia to start a Seven Mile Road church down there. The whole thing has been bitter-sweet. Bitter because we don't ever want to leave the folks here in Boston. But sweet because we'd love for people to know Jesus even as we've come to know Him here. Boston, Philly, wherever - our invitation will be the same. 'We're the Seven Mile Road....come walk with us."
