seven mile road… we are out of space

 

Our community currently gathers for worship on Sundays in Highland Avenue’s Emerson Hall, which has a maximum seating capacity of 160. Our average attendance this Fall (w/kids) has been around 150, including a high of 175. With children under 6 being cared for in our nursery and a handful of new moms and their infants viewing the service in the blue room, we’ve been able to crowd everyone in for Word and sacrament... but barely. Additionally, our two 700 square foot classrooms can no longer house our growing children’s ministry (one class is meeting in the hallway) or meet our needs for office space. Simply put, we have maximized one-service seating and parking, as well as classroom and office capacity, in our current location.

 

our options are many

 

A myriad of potential space solutions exist, including moving to two Sunday morning services at the Emerson, renting a larger local space for our Sunday gathering, launching a second Seven Mile Road site within a few miles, planting another church locally, leasing/buying permanent space, or morphing into a house church network. each of these options presents unique challenges, and whichever way we go will directly affect how we engage in our mission together.

 

and so we need to pray

 

We could endlessly analyze the pros and cons of all the different space solutions, but what we desperately need is for the Father, in His grace and by His Spirit, to lead us right now. And so we are calling everyone who is committed to Seven Mile Road to a 40 day season of focused prayer for this from November 22 through December 31. While there is nothing magical about the number 40, it’s a beautifully Biblical practice for communities to turn their souls toward prayer together in this way. All of this will coincide with the season of Advent, allowing us to prayerfully await both the appearance of our Savior and His guidance for our future.

There will be four environments for prayer over the next 40 days.

 

sundays. Every Sunday we will have a dedicated time of prayer for this during our Sunday gathering.

 

soulcare communities. We will be asking soulcare community leaders to ensure that every group takes time every time they meet over these 40 days to press into prayer for this.

 

2 or 3 (or more). Smaller gatherings of Seven Milers will be gathering weekly for the express purpose of prayer during these 40 days. A Google map listing the time and location for each of these prayer gatherings can be found here... (link coming)

 

individually. We are calling for every Seven Mile to carry this in prayer during their individual/family times of prayer as well.

 

God answers prayer

 

We don’t know how God will answer our prayer, but we do know that He will, and likely in ways that more glorious than we imagined. So brace yourself... and join us in seeking His fame just north of Boston together.
